Along the shore of Mermaid Lagoon, opposite us, an army grew thicker by the minute, eager and readying themselves for battle.
“Guvon,” I called, racing across the grounds to his side. He carried his staff, using it to point creatures where he wanted them.
“Go back to your kind,” Guvon's voice distant and cold as he concentrated on his defenses.
“I need your staff,” I called over the noisy battle preparations surrounding us. He turned to me, anger flashing in his almond-shaped eyes.
It was one of those rare, defining moments so many of us have, but rarely act upon. It was a moment, a choice in time, that I would be responsible for, and it would forever change the prophecy I had been preordained to carry out.
